The Main Street in Knights Ferry was lined with parents, friends, grandparents, family and strangers last Friday for the annual costume parade of the KF school children. Younger siblings joined in, as did young town folk. There were some great costumes, including a box of popcorn and a person on an outhouse! Candy was handed out and the children trooped back up the hill to find out the winners of the pumpkin-decorating contest. First place went to the pumpkin with vegetables for features, made by Leah Armario, Megan Wolf, Madeline Freitas and Maribel Limon. Second place went to the green witch made by Kaitlin Burke, Cassy Padilla, Brandi Cardey, Dylan Baker and Luke Dickens. Third place went to Homer Simpson, made by Peyton Paul, Elise Seeds, Shawn Spani, Ivan Garcia and Emalee Watson. The judges had a hard time this year.

Family, friends and co-workers surprised Lisa Dolling for her 50th birthday. All assembled at Ryderz Restaurant in Oakdale where Fred had it all set for a surprise. When Lisa arrived all shouted “Happy Birthday.” It was a lovely party.

Last week was Red Ribbon week at Knights Ferry School. On Monday, the students wore red and it was the Red Ribbon Assembly. Tuesday was Crazy Hair Day and Wednesday was Pajama Day. On Thursday, the boys dressed as girls and the girls dressed as boys. It was a festive week.

Thursday, November 5th is the Community Club dinner meeting. Guests will be the Sheriff, Adam Christianson and the District Attorney, Birgit Fladager. Please attend even if you are not a member, this is open to all. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse.

Gary and Sharon Page have returned from a trip to Savannah, Georgia, where they dropped off wedding presents for a niece. They went to Charleston, South Carolina and then to Missouri and the St. Louis Arch. They visited the Clark family homestead, where Gary’s relatives came from and then on to Colorado to visit son Travis, daughter-in-law Pam and the grandchildren Grant and Preston. It was a great trip!

Twin Cypress Mobile Home Park held a Halloween party, put on by the Neighborhood Watch. There were games, a parade, a piñata, tomato and egg throw, and a very scary haunted house, with a cemetery, bats, chain saw maniac, ghouls, operation table, skeletons and many spider webs. The children loved it.

On November 7th there will be a Salmon Festival in the Knights Ferry Recreation Area. This is a family friendly event, with displays, music, demonstrations, tours, and more. It goes from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There are many organizers for this event, including the Great Valley Museum, Fishbio, Stanislaus Fly Fishers, California Fish and Game, and Cramer Fish Science to name a few. There will even be salmon to eat!

The 46th annual Pumpkin Roll was great. There was a very good turn out of shoppers, rollers, watchers and eaters! Winning trophies for getting their pumpkin closest to the line were: Boys 0-6- Jacob Sponsel, Girls 0-6- Lyndsey Rowan (on the line), Senior men- Ken Morris, Senior Women- Gail McKinley, Boys 6-12- Gino Sarale, Girls 6-12- Grace Leijten, Teen Boy- Jessie Freitas, Teen girl- Gwyn Davis, Women- Beth Glidewell and Men- Kim Contreras (7 inches from line). There were about 450 rollers.
