Stephen Garcia II of Oakdale has enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

He entered basic training on Aug. 18, 2009 upon completion of two years at Modesto Junior College studying fire science.

He will achieve E-2 rank when he completes basic training and is studying fire damage control at the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.

He graduated with the Class of 2007 at Oakdale High School.

He is the son of Steve and the late Karen Garcia and has three sisters, Beth Garcia, Kate Garcia and Marsha Young.
