As this is the Cowboy Capital of the World, Oakdale celebrated the National Day of the Cowboy by having the 2018 Western States Ranch Rodeo presented by the Oakdale Saddle Club this past weekend. Hosted at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds on Saturday, July 28, teams competed while fellow competitors and fans gathered to see the event. A unique style of competition that ranged from branding to trailer loading, this event entertained those in attendance.

The first place team featured Justin Ramos, Clayton Cowden, Glenn Gray and Jesse Riedell. Taking second place was Sideline Cattle. This team consisted of Garrett Kiernan, Dan Erickson, Jesse Riedel and Pedro Lazama. The women’s steer stopping championship went to Casie Cowden. Buckles and cash prizes were handed out to those who earned them.

The next event that will be brought to you by the Oakdale Saddle Club is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18 at the East F Street rodeo grounds and will be the Northern California Junior Rodeo Association sanctioned event. This competition will feature youngsters as young as five years old and will have a traditional rodeo competition. With over 200 rodeo contestants signed up the action is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.
