Mustangs Take Second In 2019 Oakdale Cup

The Oakdale High School boys golf team hosted 18 other schools for The Oakdale Cup 2019. The 18-hole tournament took place at Oakdale Golf and Country Club on Monday, March 25. Rio Americano placed first overall in the tournament with a score of 385, with host Oakdale placing second overall at 420. Turlock (434), Hughson (458) and Ripon (469) rounded out the top five.

Oakdale’s Ryan Meyer, a sophomore, placed third overall in the tournament out of 106 golfers with a score of 75 on the par 72 course. His efforts landed him a medal in the tournament for placing in the top five individuals.

“It was a fun tournament playing on my home town course. I wish my short game was a little better but overall I am pleased with my performance as well as the team as a whole,” said Meyer.

His teammates Calvin Reed, Ryan Wheatley and Tristan Jaramillo were not too far off. Reed, a senior shot 80 and freshman Wheatley also turned in a score card of 80. Reed finished sixth and Wheatley finished seventh in the overall standings. Jaramillo placed eighth overall with a final score of 81. Rounding out the day for Oakdale was freshman Grant Webber who finished 61st on the leaderboard with a score of 104, and freshman Jordan Goodman at 76th with a score of 112.

The Mustangs also competed in the Valley Oak League #3 tournament at Manteca Park on Wednesday, March 27. For the third time this season, Oakdale has taken first place in the VOL tournament. In the 18-hole tourney, Meyer found himself on top of the leaderboard going four under par. Meyer shot a 68 on the par 72. Jaramillo shot 74, with Wheatley one stroke behind him at 75. Reed shot an 80, with Weber finishing at 93 and Goodman at 109.

Oakdale will now take a break from competition and return to action on Monday, April 8 for VOL #4. The fourth installment of the tournament will take place at Dryden Park Golf Course as Central Catholic will host. Tee time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
