Three Oakdale United competitive travel soccer teams were on the field for multiple games over the long Thanksgiving weekend, traveling to Cherry Island Soccer Complex near Sacramento. They took part in the CVU Thanksgiving Classic, with Oakdale’s Under 12 boys, Under 16 girls and Under 19 girls all suiting up for contests.

The boys lost 3-0 against American River FC, playing with just 10 players in their Saturday morning contest. They bounced back with a 5-0 win against CVU in the afternoon with goals from Alfie Harris, Jonatan Gonzalez (2) and Kaleb McDonald (2) and assists from Harris, Logan Rodriguez, David Ayala and McDonald. They took a 4-0 loss in their third game, falling to a strong Napa Valley area squad.

Oakdale’s Under 16 girls, playing together competitively for the first time, tied their first game 2-2 (Julia Nilsson, Kennedy Codromac goals) before taking two losses, 3-1 (Nilsson goal) and 3-0, but gaining valuable experience in the tournament and playing some solid soccer.

The Under 19 Insanity girls opened up with a tough 2-0 loss to a physical Elk Grove team on Saturday morning, took an early lead against Lincoln on a Danae Rose goal (goalkeeper Hannah Hanko assist) in the afternoon but ended up on the wrong end of a 2-1 final score, then couldn’t find the net in a Sunday morning game against Sierra Gold, falling in a 2-0 contest.
