Fall Sports Schedules Serve Up Plenty Of Competition

School is back in session and soon Oakdale High School sports will return as well. A handful of sports are scheduled to be back to their normal seasons this fall. This month several Mustang sports launch their campaigns, as boys and girls water polo, volleyball, cross country, girls golf and football all get back into action.

Savannah Martin returns as head coach for the boys water polo team and their season begins on Aug. 28 on the road for a scrimmage in Modesto. Sept. 16 is the team’s first home game against Lodi. Currently, the Nor Cal Finals are scheduled for Nov. 20. For the girls, Megan Richey is the head coach. Oakdale’s first game is scheduled for Aug. 31 at Lincoln. The team hosts Lodi on Sept. 16 in their first home game. Senior night is scheduled for Oct. 28 against Sierra. Playoffs are scheduled for Nov. 3.

Volleyball tips off with a home scrimmage on Aug. 14. Valley Oak League season play begins on Sept. 1 when they host Kimball. Their annual Pink Out contest is scheduled for Oct. 4 against East Union. Senior night is scheduled for Oct. 20.

Guy Fowler is getting his boys and girls teams ready for cross country action. The season begins on Aug. 20 for the Lodi Flame Invitational. The first Valley Oak League meet is scheduled for Sept. 22 at Mistlin Park. Oakdale will host the Valley Oak League Championship on Oct. 27. Postseason begins Nov. 6.

Lee McGhee serves as head coach of the girls golf team and their season begins on Aug. 30 with an 18-hole match at the Yellowjacket Invitational. Oakdale hosts Kimball on Sept. 2. The postseason begins on Oct. 25 for the Divisionals.

Trent Merzon and his staff return for football. Aug. 13 the Mustangs host Tracy in a scrimmage. The season opener is scheduled for Aug. 20 inside The Corral against Sonora. The Mustangs start the season with six straight home games. Preseason welcomes heavy hitters Edison, Spanish Springs and Archbishop Mitty. The regular season kickoffs on Sept. 17 at home against East Union, which will also serve as Homecoming. Oakdale welcomes Central Catholic on Oct. 1. The regular season finale is scheduled for Oct. 29 at home against Manteca.
