Boy Golfers Tee Up First VOL Victory

The 2020 boys golf season teed off on Monday, March 2 at Dryden Park Golf Course. All teams from the Valley Oak League gathered for VOL #1 in 18-hole action. Oakdale placed first overall with a total team score of 472. East Union placed second with 501 and earning a third place finish was Central Catholic at 529. Kimball (540); Sierra (551); Weston Ranch (688) and Manteca (No Score) rounded out the scoring.

Ryan Meyer shot one under par 71 to end his day on top of the leaderboard. He was seven strokes ahead of second place finisher Tyler Griggs of East Union. The Mustangs had three players in the top ten. Mason O’Neil shot 88 to finish fifth and taking sixth on the day was Grant Weber at 94. Just outside the top ten was Levi Dusterhaus with a score of 103 to finish 12th in the tournament.

All Mustang golfers placed in the top 25. Carson Middaugh placed 22nd overall at 116. Tyler Cunningham shot 119 to place 24th. There were 36 golfers who turned in a score card.

“Conditions were tough today, windy greens were firm and speedy tough day all the way around,” said Mustangs coach Lee McGhee. “Great way to start the season though.”

Oakdale will next participate in the Crosstown Cup in Turlock on Monday, March 16. This will be an 18-hole tournament at Turlock Golf and Country Club. Their next VOL tournament will be VOL #2 on March 30 at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.
