William “Buck” Theodore Burchett, peacefully passed away in his sleep recently at his home in Oakdale, CA. Buck was 79 years old. The second of three children, he was born in Claremore, OK on February 27, 1938, to Theodore and Geneva Burchett.
His older sister Kay and younger brother Al preceded him in death. He leaves behind his daughters Carrie MacLean and Brooke Burchett, his son Jeremy Burchett, four grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Buck was born on Will Rogers’ ranch in Oklahoma, but his family settled in the Modesto area during his youth. He served in the Navy, filling positions as varied as tending bar and driving a fire truck. After this he joined the Merchant Marines, helping chart the Indian Ocean. He was a skilled pool player, and played in both golf and bowling Pro-Am tournaments. Buck lived for a time in Seattle where he sold real estate, but he eventually made his way back and settled near his family, living in both Riverbank and Oakdale. He worked many years for Cableone, as well as subsequent cable television providers in Oakdale. In his retirement Buck was a fixture in Oakdale, making many friends along his walking routes, where he is sure to be missed. He was an avid reader and cigar connoisseur.
Friends and family are gathering to celebrate his life May 30th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 2500 Van Derk Circle in Modesto.
