Robert Duane Spurgeon, 68, passed away on Thursday, March 17 at his home in Escalon.

He was born on Nov. 13, 1942 in Stockton and had been a resident of Escalon for the past 44 years. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, and grandfather who was devoted to his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Louise Spurgeon and their children, Robert (Kelly) Spurgeon of Washington, Matthew (Tammie) Spurgeon of Escalon, Patrick Spurgeon of Escalon, and Jessica and Gary DeShane of Texas; grandchildren Sarah, Robert, Matthew, Jack, Madellyn, Grace, Faith, Mykayla, Brandon, Alexis and Justin; his gramma Kitty Workman and his siblings Bernita Butler of Washington, Harry Spurgeon of Ripon, Charles Spurgeon of Ripon, Carolyn Barstad of Oakdale, Donna Johnson of Watsonville, Maxine Ehrmann of Colorado and Shelton Spurgeon of Salida.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 24 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Deegan Chapel in Escalon.

His memorial service will be on Friday, March 25 at 2:30 p.m. at Saron Lutheran Church in Escalon, burial will be private.
