Richard David ‘Red’ Schafer, 68, died Saturday, Sept. 3.
He was born in Pleasanton to Eula and Fred Schafer, Sr.
He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Mr. Schafer served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner on a ship in Vietnam.
He raised cattle in Oakdale where he resided. He was a truck driver for 40 years. He also rode broncs and bulls in rodeos. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his daughter, Teri Schafer; stepsons, Mike Varney, Russ Varney; brother, Fred Schafer, Jr. of Virginia; sister-in-law, Rosemary; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Schafer of Idaho.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Oakdale Grange Hall, 30 Lambuth Ave., Oakdale.
