Rev. Floyd B. McCarthy

Rev. Floyd B. McCarthy, 94, died peacefully on Thursday, May 19 at home.

He was born in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and became a minister to the Disciples of Christ Christian Church for more than 50 years.

During World War II, he was a fighter pilot with the first Army Air Corps to follow the Flying Tiger volunteers in Burma, India and was designated a Flying Tiger and attended many of their functions. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Rev. Floyd was a member of the Oakdale Christian Church and the Oakdale Kiwanis.

He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children, Judy, Christine, Patricia, James, John, and Connie; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean; his parents; brother, Frances; sister, Wanda Mae.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 29 at Oakdale Christian Church, 251 Maxwell. A 30-minute viewing will take place prior to the service.
