Michael Ray Voorhees, 62, died May 20 after a one-and-a-half year battle with cancer.
He was born in Oakdale to parents Raymond and Thelma Voorhees.
Mr. Vorhees joined the Army National Guard in 1967. He ended his 23 years of military service in the Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class E-7.
After his service, he went to work at Central Sanitary Supply where he retired due to his illness after 20 years.
He loved his family, fishing and RV’ing. He was a self-proclaimed “semi-pro” fisherman. He was a true friend to everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Voorhees; children, Anne, Lisa, Lannette, Glenn, Russell; sisters, Diane and Sharon; brothers, Raymond Jr. and Randy; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 4 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 1911 Toyon Ave., Modesto.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
