Gilbert L. ‘Gil’ Jones, 95, died Wednesday, April 6 in Santa Rosa at his daughter’s home.

He was born and raised in Oswego, New York. He attended New York State School of Agriculture from 1937-39 (now SONY Technical School) in Canton, NY, graduating as an industrial chemist.

In 1940 he served in the military with the Coast Artillery.

Mr. Jones was married in 1943 to Hazel M. Bliven. They resided in Hershey, Pennsylvania where he worked for the Hershey Chocolate Company. The family moved to Oakdale in 1964 when Mr. Jones helped set up the Hershey Chocolate plant and was in charge of quality control. He worked for Hershey Chocolate from 1943 to 1979, and part time until 1989, when he retired.

His interests included travel, the computer, and the stock market.

He is survived by his daughter, Constance L. (Edward R.) Montague of Santa Rosa; son, James B. (Joy) Jones of San Antonio, TX; brother, Robert P. (Nora) Jones of Scriba, NY; nephew, Donald and family; other nieces and nephews; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Hazel.

At his request, there will be no services.
