In Loving Memory of Freida Lygene Dunn
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Freida Lygene Dunn, on June 30, 2023, at the age of 88. Born on November 14, 1934, in Checotah, Oklahoma, Freida’s life was a testament to faith, family, and unwavering devotion. She instilled within her children a deep reverence for God.
Freida’s unwavering commitment to her Christian beliefs was exemplified through her dedication to the First Missionary Baptist Church of Riverbank. Freida served selflessly in various capacities within the church, but she especially enjoyed her time as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Clerk.
Freida leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Mark Copeland, siblings, Sandra Bourland, Gerild Brown, and Jim Brown, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Freida was preceded in death by her parents, J.O. and Lydia Brown, her siblings Mathew Brown, Dorothy Dunn, Joyce Skinner, Kathy Gillman, and her dear son Matthew Dunn. She was also preceded in death by Arry Dunn with whom she married in 1952 and spent 25 years with.
Freida found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Family gatherings were enriched by her competitive spirit, especially during board game sessions where she demonstrated her cunning skills and emerged victorious, often to the delight and admiration of her beloved grandchildren. Her leisure hours were spent immersed in the teachings of the Scripture, finding solace, guidance, and inspiration within its pages. The uplifting melodies of Gaither’s gospel music filled her home and nourished her soul, fostering a deep connection to her faith.
Freida worked for Hershey Chocolate in Oakdale from 1977 to 1997. During this time, she made lifelong friendships and great memories.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Riverbank Memorial Chapel from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at 3131 Santa Fe Street, Riverbank. Her funeral honoring the remarkable life of Freida Lygene Dunn, will take place on July 13, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church at 3601 Sierra Street, Riverbank. We invite family, friends, and community members to join us in offering our final respects and seeking solace in each other’s presence during this time of mourning.
As we bid farewell to our dear Freida, we hold onto the memories of her unwavering faith, her boundless love for her family, and her unwavering commitment to serving others. May her soul find eternal rest in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father, and may her legacy continue to inspire and guide us all.
