David Orlin Munns, 51, died Thursday, June 2 at home.
He was born in Los Angeles, the youngest of five children to Orlin Charles and Opalgene Munns.
After completing high school in San Marino, he wanted to get out of the “big city” and eventually settled in Oakdale. He worked in construction for several years before getting a general contractor’s license in 1992. He owned and operated Munns Construction in Oakdale and worked on many projects throughout the area.
Mr. Munns loved building things and working with his hands. He loved watching his son play baseball and getting involved with his son and daughter in their 4-H activities. The trips he took with his children to the Dillon Beach were the highlight of his summers, and in the winter he loved Tahoe, where he took the kids skiing and snowboarding. He liked to fish and shared many deep-sea fishing adventures with family and friends.
He is survived by his parents; son, Matthew David Munns; daughter, Haley Grace Munns; brother, Jay Charles (Cheryl) Munns; sisters, Marianne (Douglas) Lavine, Patricia (Dennis) Shepherd, Virginia Rhome; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 10 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 West F St. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, also at the chapel.
