David Hinshaw, 56, died Sunday, March 25.

He was born in Oakdale and was a lifelong resident, graduating from Oakdale High School in 1973.

He was diagnosed early in life, at age 20, with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He became one of Stanford’s cancer research patients in working toward a cure for this disease.

Mr. Hinshaw was married for 36 years to his wife, Paula. He worked for Foster Farms Dairy for 13 years, retiring due to his long term illness.

He served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Oakdale Fire Department for several years. He was a lifelong outdoor enthusiast. He had a great love for his Labrador companion, Haven. His fondest desire was to touch lives spiritually, guide and comfort those who experience pain and suffering as he did during his life long fight.

He is survived by his wife, Paula; father, Mike (Geri) Hinshaw; brothers, Gary (Alicia) Hinshaw, Daniel (Sandy) Hinshaw; and sister, Janice Russo.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn McKellips.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 9 at Shelter Cove Community Church, Modesto.
