Billy Wayne Armstrong, 80, died Wednesday, Aug. 14.

He was born on Feb. 6, 1933 in Caddo, Okla. to his loving parents William James and Thelma Gladys Armstrong. He grew up in Bryan County, Okla. with his family and resided most of his life in Modesto and Oakdale, where he was a farmer.

Mr. Armstrong was a veteran of the Korean War.

In his later years, he was a truck driver for La Follette Trucking Inc. in Turlock.

He loved to garden, play music, and spend time with loved ones. He was a loving family man and was a most unselfish person. He is missed tremendously by his large, loving family. Any person that had the pleasure of meeting him got a little taste of how wonderful he made his family’s lives.

He is survived by his daughters, Alycia Portrey, Carla Armstrong; sons, Bruce (Pam) Armstrong; Jason (Stacy) Stude; sister, Phyllis Rogers; ex-wife, Daisy Armstrong; grandchildren, Sarina, Cheri, Carrie, Jennyann, Jessica, Justin, Kayla, Davis, Austin, and Megan; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Genevieve Russell.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25 at his oldest son Bruce’s home, 10101 Hutchinson Road, Manteca. Anyone who knew Mr. Armstrong is welcome.

Remembrances may be made in his honor to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356. Donations of fruit and vegetable plants/trees would also be appreciated to keep his garden always growing.
