Laura, we hope to do your column justice. After 38 years of writing the Valley Home News, Laura is taking a much needed and well deserved rest. Over the next few weeks, readers will notice the return of “Laura’s Valley Home News” column…only now it will be written by three or four persons who will try to fill Laura’s shoes! Valley Home says a big THANK YOU to Laura Burghardt.

We have lots to tell you about. On Saturday, Sept. 28, the community park will be hosting a huge yard sale. The prices are going to be unbelievable and the merchandise is going to be superior. We are excited that 100 percent of the proceeds will go straight to the maintenance, PG&E, taxes, etc. for the park. We hope everyone will come to check out the terrific prices and great items! Sale starts at 7:30 a.m. on the 28th. Anyone wishing to donate items to the sale are asked to call Sharon Furtado at 969-4212. She will gladly pick up. You may get more information by going to Face Book “Valley Home Community Park.”

Also making headlines in Valley Home is the news that our own Jenna Heaton is celebrating her 18th birthday this week. Jenna along with cousins, Cody and Cooper Bartholomew were treated to a tasty buffet dinner at the Atlantis in Reno this past Friday evening. Jenna is attending MJC this year and we all enjoy seeing her on her way to classes in that cute little white jeep. Happy Birthday Jenna!

We’re wondering who owns that beautiful sky blue truck seen cruising around Valley Home…could it be our 4-H president, Garret Bryhni?

Former Valley Home 4-H member Justin Martin provided some very exciting moments on TV last week. Justin is playing college football for Wyoming and got a lot of air time on TV when Wyoming played Nebraska. The shouts from the Heaton household could be heard all over as they cheered for Justin! Great job Justin!

Valley Home School students and parents were thrilled to know that their beloved bus driver, Bonnie Gillerman will return to driving their school bus. She will resume driving after a month long leave of absence. The Valley Home Community would like to thank Bonnie and let her know she is loved and very much appreciated!

Valley Home folks also send out a huge ‘Thank You’ to all the firefighters who take care of us here in Valley Home and then go fight the many fires raging throughout California. As we took time to remember those who lost their lives on 9-11, we honor those who today stand ready to face the challenges of tomorrow. A heartfelt thank you to all.
