Making good use of a beautiful day, members of our Oakdale Fun Lovin’ Ladies will get all gussied up Wednesday, September 5th, and sporting the very latest in Red Hat Chapeaus, the group has selected the Strings Restaurant for their luncheon meeting. The restaurant is located at Old Oakdale Road and Floyd Avenue in Modesto. Needless to say, the ladies in their beautiful red flowered bonnets will create quite a stir among the other guests at the restaurant with their purple and red outfits!

Last week we asked our readers to circle Saturday, September 22nd on their calendars and plan to attend the fundraiser dinner planned for that evening at our Valley Home Community Park. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and may be enjoyed at the park or taken home. The menu will feature your choice of marinated boneless chicken sandwich or a tri tip sandwich served with pinto and kidney beans in addition to a pasta or potato salad. Soft drinks or bottled water will also be supplied. Valley Home’s own excellent caterer Mike Jerome of Jerome Family Catering will be providing the food as was done at the park dedication a little over a year ago. Tickets are priced at $10.00 for adults or $5.00 for children under 12 years of age. For those of us who attended the opening of the community Park last year we can attest to the delicious dinner served up by Mike on that occasion and we are looking forward to enjoying another great dinner on September 22nd.
Funds created from the dinner will be used for upkeep of the park, such as the recent repair to the Park’s water system. Our Valley Home Community Park is currently springing back to life following repair and replacement of parts to the well. The lawn area is looking good again!

Glenn and Laura Burghardt were among members of the Oakdale Garden club who created wooden bird nest boxes at the Garden Club meeting held at the home of member Sue and Larry McDaniel on Atlas Road. There was a lot of hammering and gluing going on as members eagerly demonstrated their skills at creating a thing of beauty to entice a bird family to move right in and begin to raise a family! Everyone enjoyed a delicious luncheon served from a table situated on a lawn under a beautiful tree setting. What a lovely setting for a meeting and lunch with sheep grazing contentedly in the pasture setting next to the meeting site.
