This week we send Happy Birthday wishes to a wonderful and very sweet lady, Mrs. Loretta Steele. Both Loretta and her husband Gary are suffering illnesses and are currently in the hospital. Gary is in Stanford and Loretta is in an area hospital. Please pray for these two very special people. Loretta and Gary were our Grand Marshals for our Valley Home Lighted Christmas Parade a few years ago. They are both very involved and dedicated to our community.

Exciting news … Congratulations to Miss Samantha Banks. Samantha, who is a senior at Oakdale High School, had an amazing second place finish at the Area 7 Rotary Speech Contest. The contest was filled with spectacular competitors. Congratulations to all participants. Samantha is also a beautiful Rodeo Queen; she is an amazing young woman who gives 110 percent effort to everything she does. Keep reaching for the stars, Samantha.

This past week our Sierra 4-H Club members held their annual Dessert Auction. Delicious treats of every kind were auctioned off to the highest bidder. The huge crowd paid some really big bucks to take home their favorite dessert. All had a great time.

We are so proud of all our Oakdale High School wrestlers as they took part in the divisionals. Wes Burford and Matthew Cooley both won first place in their weight class. Congratulations to these two amazing young men; Divisional Champions. These two Valley Home boys will move onto the Sac-Joaquin Masters this Friday and Saturday at the Stockton Arena. They will each wrestle against the top wrestlers in the region with the goal of advancing to the State Meet. This is what our wrestlers have worked so hard for … and it all comes down to this weekend. What an exciting weekend. We are so proud of the tremendous work ethic and the amazing talent each of our Oakdale High wrestlers have.

As I am writing this column, I have just received very sad news: former Oakdale High School wrestling coach Brendt Noon Sr. passed away recently. Coach Noon was well known for helping build our wrestling program into the highly respected powerhouse it is today. He was an amazing man, dedicated and devoted to the young men he taught so much. Services will be held on March 29th at the Knights Ferry Community Hall from 2 pm until 8 pm … all are welcome to attend. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Coach Noon.
