This past week I had the pleasure of attending the Oakdale High FFA “Welcome Back BBQ.” For the first time ever, the BBQ was held at the school farm! The scene that unfolded as we drove down the lane leading onto the farm was breathtaking. A huge red barn welcomed us. The front of the barn proudly displays its Oakdale Mustang and FFA logos. Before going inside we took time to enjoy the sight of several rows of young almond trees. The rows of trees form the backdrop for this important teaching, hands on Ag Education. How blessed our young people are to be able to be part of something so great! With a crowd of close to 750 people, FFA members and staff made sure every need was met. It was definitely a night to remember. Our Oakdale FFA instructors are Isaac Robles, Ed Hartzell, Grace Tobias and Matt Marshall. FFA officers for this year are Marnelle Salie, Chapter President, Blake Morgan, Vice President. The officer team is completed with Tate Borba, Grace Verdegaal, Nicole Batezell, Hope Kindred, Russell Cope, Cody Bartholomew, Tavin Barry, Kimber Tavares, Tatyn Silva and Caleb Barios. Watch for more info on FFA events and activities. There is a lot going on at the school farm!

I end this week’s column sharing the happy news of a fun trip to Georgia! Granddaughter Jenna Heaton spent Labor Day weekend with childhood friend, Tayler Denman at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Taylor attends UGA and invited Jenna to come visit and attend the first game of the football season. The girls tailgated during the day and were able to be up front when the team came walking through the crowd on their way to the stadium. The girls were lucky enough to get high fives from players and got to cheer on the Bulldog players as they made their way past. They had a blast and made many wonderful memories!
