In a special presentation on Monday, Sept. 14, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) announced the winners of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition. The Grand Prize-winning student, Martha Wenstrup of Turlock, will have her work “Read Between the Lines” displayed in the United States Capitol Complex for an entire year and receive a free trip to Washington, D.C. to celebrate her achievement after the Coronavirus Pandemic has ended.

Second Place went to Olivia Taylor, John C. Kimball High School for her work called “Childhood” while the Their Place honoree was Caitlynne McNamara, John C. Kimball High School for her work “Contemplation”.

The second-place winner’s artwork will be displayed in Rep. Harder’s Washington, DC office and the third-place winner’s piece will be displayed in his Modesto office.

Twenty-eight students submitted works of art to this year’s competition. Every spring, the Congressional Institute, in concert with local members of Congress, sponsors the Congressional Art Competition, which gives local high school students a chance to compete for the honor of having their work displayed on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC. Since 1982, over 650,000 students have competed.
