The City of Oakdale is proactively updating its Housing Element as part of the General Plan to align with the state mandates and local needs. This update is essential for addressing the anticipated housing requirements across all income brackets, ensuring that Oakdale is prepared for future growth and development.
Understanding the Housing Element
The Housing Element is a critical component of the General Plan, mandated by California State law. It lays down the groundwork for:
• Formulating goals, policies, and scheduled actions to improve and develop housing.
• Identifying housing demands and ensuring that suitable sites are available for all economic segments of the community over an eight-year cycle.
• Achieving certification from the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for compliance with state housing laws.
Oakdale’s Share of Regional Housing Needs
As part of the Sixth Cycle Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA), Oakdale is tasked with accommodating the construction of 1,665 new housing units. This distribution includes:
• 414 units for very low-income families.
• 218 units for low-income residents.
• 294 units for moderate-income families.
• The remainder for households without income restrictions.
Public Involvement and Participation
The City of Oakdale emphasizes public participation in the planning process. Residents are encouraged to provide their input through a brief survey, which will influence the direction and focus of the Housing Element update.
