The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Sept. 29 through Monday, Oct. 5. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, OCT. 5
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies performed Monday apparatus checks as well as app bay maintenance.
FF29 worked with the training division on getting signed off to operate various fire apparatuses.
Battalion 5 toured Kerr Park in Oakdale. Highlights included access points and a new wetlands project completed by the Army Corps of Engineers.
SUNDAY, OCT. 4
Battalion 2: 7:24 a.m. – Engine 24, Engine 23, Engine 21, Engine 9, Engine 27, Engine 28, Quint 22, HGS WT39, WT 27, BC2, BC5, FIU, and Medic 1 responded to a working structure fire on Center Street in Waterford. Engine 24 arrived first and reported a fire in the attached garage, laundry room. Crews operated in the offensive mode to knockdown the fire and prevent extension to the main part of the house. FIU is investigating, Red Cross was contacted for emergency housing support for the family. No injuries were reported.
Battalion 5: Crews trained in their territories on firefighting strategies and tactics.
12:01 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29 and Battalion 5 responded to a vehicle collision on Lon Dale Road at Walnut. There were three minor injuries.
1:47 p.m. – Water Rescue 29, Water Rescue 28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to reports of rafters stranded on the Stanislaus River east of Oakdale. Boat 29 found the rafters and transported them back to their vehicle. There were no injuries.
SATURDAY, OCT. 3
Battalion 2: Saturday battalion training included aerial operations and hose pulls.
2 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, and BC1 responded to a vehicle accident at Oakdale and Patterson roads. One immediate was transported with E26 Fire Paramedic treating while enroute to the hospital.
Battalion 5: Crews trained in their territories on firefighting strategies and tactics.
Engine 28 did a walkthrough of Oak Valley Hospital discussing tactics and strategies in case of a fire in the facility.
9:55 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 26 and Battalion 5 responded to a motorcyclist down on 26 Mile Road at Woodward Reservoir. Crews arrived to find a female patient that had lost control and crashed into the guardrail. She fractured her arm and was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
FRIDAY, OCT. 2
Battalion 2: Crews rotated through blood draws at the RFTC as a part of the annual physical process.
9:10 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to a three-vehicle accident with one vehicle into a building. E26 crew treated four patients on scene with minor injuries. Care was transferred to Oak Valley for further evaluation.
Battalion 5: Crews rotated through the RFTC for blood draws.
E27, E28, BC5, Chief Evans, Hunter and Bairos attended the First Responder Appreciation event in Oakdale hosted by Steves Cheverolet.
E27 and BC5 participated in the Oakdale High School Homecoming Parade.
2:33 p.m. – E28, E27 and BC5 responded with Oak Valley Ambulance and CHP for report of a vehicle accident on Claribel Road and Albers Road. Crews arrived on scene and found a vehicle vs. a motorcycle with two patients on the motorcycle with injuries. Patients were treated and transported to local hospitals. CHP is investigating.
THURSDAY, OCT. 1
Battalion 5: Engine 27, Engine 29 responded for a wire down call in Knights Ferry. Crews arrived on scene to find a delivery truck that had made contact with powerlines causing an extended power outage in the town of Knights Ferry. Crews remained on scene providing scene security and traffic control until PG&E could secure power to the area.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 30
Battalion 2: Captain Zurilgen returned home from the Plaskett Fire.
6:06 p.m. – Engines 9, 26, and Battalion 2 responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Roselle and Plainview. Utility 17 was in the area and reported one person trapped in the vehicle and requested a truck respond. Quint 22 was dispatched. The crew from E26 used their battery-powered combi tool (Jaws of Life) and opened the door. Q22 was canceled. Two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
Battalion 5: Crews performed a variety of different exercises; topics included drafting, rope rescue and hose stretches.
10 p.m. – E7, E11, T5 and BC5 responded to the 1600 block of Sailfish Drive, Station 26’s FMA, for a possible structure fire. E7 arrived at scene and found a double wide manufactured home with smoke showing. E7 balanced the response to a working structure fire, bringing three additional engines. Crews made entry into the structure and found a room and contents fire in a back bedroom. The fire was quickly knocked down. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 29
Battalion 2: Captain Zurilgen is working his last shift at the Plaskett fire and will return home tomorrow.
Battalion 5: Engineer Riedeman received his five-year “Certificate of Appreciation” award. He currently is stationed at Fire Station 29 in Knights Ferry.
In order to prepare for an upcoming probationary test, Fire Station 27 reviewed parts ID on a commercial sprinkler system.
