Windows will be painted, floats will be constructed and school spirit will once again be in the spotlight as Oakdale High School prepares for Homecoming 2023. The festive Homecoming Week is on the schedule from Monday, Oct. 2 through Friday, Oct. 6.
But the preparations start sooner than that, as this weekend will see many students turning out to share some artistic work downtown. The freshman, sophomore and junior classes will begin painting windows of F Street businesses at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 to kick off the spirit of the event. Seniors are due downtown on Sunday, Oct. 1 for their window painting.
Then, special dress up days will be hosted each day during the Homecoming Week, centered around the original theme of Breakfast of Champions.
Monday, Oct. 2: Life Cereal Day, dress up in your future career wear.
Tuesday, Oct. 3: Cap’n Crunch Day, dress up as a sailor or pirate.
Wednesday, Oct 4: Fruity Pebbles Day, dress up in a stone age costume.
Thursday, Oct. 5: Corn Flakes Day, dress up in Western wear.
Friday, Oct. 6: Frosted Flakes Day, dress up in a sports jersey or extreme red and gold.
The Homecoming parade will be hosted Friday, Oct. 6 at 1:15 p.m., and the Homecoming Queen and Princess will be crowned at Friday night’s varsity football game. The crowning will be at halftime, as the Mustangs host East Union in Valley Oak League action.
Due to time constraints during the week, Powder Puff football has been officially moved to Monday, Oct. 16. The Homecoming King and Prince ceremonies will be hosted during halftime.
