Knights Ferrians were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Gregg Haskell. He was killed in a motorcycle accident on Orange Blossom Road on the 18th. Gregg lived on Main Street for over 20 years, but was a summer child, coming to the Ferry in the summer to visit his relatives ever since he was a child. Gregg and Anna were married in the Community Church and made their home on Main Street. Their children, Owen and James went to Knights Ferry School for a few years before being home schooled. They now are both following dad’s footsteps and studying engineering at Oregon State University. Gregg had been on the church’s Board of Trustees and served on the Community Services District’s Water Board. Gregg also served time on the Municipal Advisory Council. As a Structural Engineer with Haskell and Haskell, Gregg engineered the water plant and assisted engineering the new wall at the church. When the Army Corp took over the covered bridge, he helped re-engineer the bridge. Gregg had a patent on a Seismic Retro Viscous Damper, an earthquake stabilizer for high-rise buildings. Gregg is survived by wife, Anna, boys Owen and James, father Owen Haskell, sisters Dolly Haskell, Shavon Haskell and Laura Simons and many nieces, nephews and cousins and Aunt Betty Rogers. A memorial service will be June 12th at the Community Church at 1:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life at the River’s Edge the same day at 3:00 p.m.

The 6th annual All Girls Tea was held at the River’s Edge Sunday. Peggy Van Vliet gave the opening prayer followed by refreshments served by the men and boys. Maggie Van Vliet, Sarah Jean Tanis and Denise Ray spoke on ‘Some of the Many Hats Women Wear.’ The young girls in attendance decorated hats and were awarded trophies. Dessert was served and then a closing prayer. Thanks to Dorothy McKinsey for the use of the River’s Edge and her great food!

Thursday, June 3rd is the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting. It is a dinner meeting starting at 6:30 at the clubhouse.

Lee and Mary Sue joined other Porsche enthusiasts for a tour to Ione to see a large workshop where they did aviation restoration on WWII planes and racing planes. They were working on one for the Reno Air Show. They also had a collection of old cars. Quite an interesting place! Then the group went to Jackson for lunch. It was a beautiful day for a road trip.

Welcome to the world Jake Studer, son of Angie Martinelli Studer and Richie Studer. Jake was born February 27. Welcoming Jake home was big brother Pete. Proud grandparents are Kay and Bill Martinelli.

Linda Cassinetto drove to Las Vegas to help her oldest daughter, Monica Gardella, celebrate becoming a “zero.” Linda’s youngest daughter, Beth Dietrich, also made the trip down from Rocklin (near Sacramento) but her son, Stephen Dietrich, was unable to attend because he is currently in Nepal.
