Authorities have identified an Oakdale woman who died as a result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday night.

Lois Sipe, 61, sustained fatal injuries when the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle she was driving was struck head on by a vehicle that had pulled out to pass a pick-up towing a trailer.

According to the California Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11 on Highway 120, west of Valley Home Road.

The CHP received a call of a vehicle collision and emergency personnel arriving on scene found two vehicles with damage and one unresponsive female adult on scene.

The investigation showed a 65-year-old woman from Jamestown was eastbound in a 2012 Toyota Prius, driving at about 55 mph behind a pick-up towing a trailer. Sipe, on her motorcycle, was westbound on Highway 120 at an unknown speed. The Toyota driver attempted to pass the pick-up and accelerated when entering the westbound lane and into the path of the Kawasaki. The motorcycle struck the front of the Prius and Sipe was ejected. The Toyota then lost control and overturned.

Sipe was wearing a DOT-approved helmet but sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The driver of the Toyota was wearing her lap and shoulder safety restraint system and did not sustain any injuries.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor, the CHP said. Anyone that might have witnessed the collision is asked to notify the CHP Modesto Area office at 209-545-7440.
