Fires Inside Oakdale Kmart Suspected Arson

Multiple fires suspected to be arson caused damage and forced evacuation of the Oakdale Kmart on Tuesday evening, Aug. 21.

On Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 7:48 p.m. Oakdale Police and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire first responders responded to a report of smoke inside the Kmart business at 175 S. Maag Ave., Oakdale. The store was evacuated and firefighters quickly extinguished multiple small fires, believed to be arson. One employee reported symptoms related to smoke inhalation and was checked out by medical personnel at the scene. There were no other reported injuries.

Investigators with the Oakdale Police Department and the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit are conducting a joint investigation into the incident.
