The Oakdale Joint Unified School District recently named Michael Tambini to the position of Vice Principal and Athletic Director at Oakdale High School. Tambini replaces Mike Moore who accepted the Principal role at OHS. Tambini officially started in his new position in July.
Tambini comes from the Nevada Union Joint High School District, near Auburn, where he served as Principal of their continuation high school. He previously served as a Vice Principal at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks and Inderkum High School in Natomas, accepting progressive levels of responsibility.
Though Tambini currently resides in the Sacramento area, as do his children, he will be staying in Oakdale during the week until he is settled into the Vice Principal position. His father used to live in Oakdale and that connection is what inspired him to apply here.
“It had a great reputation with the athletics and the academics,” Tambini said of Oakdale. “It was very appealing. It still has that small town atmosphere.”
He said he is looking forward to working with staff and students and being part of the community.
“I’m excited about working with Mike Moore and the administrative staff and carrying forth the reputation (of the school),” he said. “…They take a lot of pride here in the community and I want to be a part of that. There’s a lot of hometown pride here.”
He added that he realized that there are a large number of alumni who are coaches in Oakdale, which he says is uncommon. Also, he noted that most of the coaches are “on campus” as teachers or other staff, which is also not typical, he said, adding that it says a lot about the staff’s interest in the students.
Tambini graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Math from San Jose State University. He has taught math and science at both the junior high and high school level. He obtained his multiple subject credential from National University with added authorizations in math and science. Tambini has also coached several sports including cross-country, track, wrestling, basketball, and strength coaching, as well as being a freshmen class advisor prior to getting his administrative credentials, also from National University.
While teaching, he was recognized as the Teacher of the Year at Liberty Union High School District in Brentwood and Most Inspirational Teacher at East Side Union High School District in San Jose. He also served in an administrative role at Colusa High School.
