Riverbank police officers have arrested an Oakdale resident suspected of stealing a wheelchair and other items in a burglary.

On Oct. 29, deputies took a report of a burglary in the 3300 block of Stanislaus Street in Riverbank. The victim, who was in the hospital at the time, had two electric wheelchairs, a 40-inch television set and several dozen DVDs in a black suitcase stolen from his home.

One of the wheelchairs was located abandoned on High Street at Second Street. Detectives following up on the burglary located a witness who identified Dillon Cole, 19, of Oakdale as the person they saw pushing the wheelchairs down the street near the location where it was abandoned.

According to a report issued by police, detectives contacted Cole at his home in the 500 block of North Fifth Avenue in Oakdale on Nov 4. At Cole’s home, detectives noticed a TV that was similar to the one stolen from the Stanislaus Street burglary. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home, conducted a search and confirmed that the TV in Cole’s home was the one stolen from Riverbank.

Detectives also located the suitcase with the stolen DVDs and several other items that had been reported stolen from other recent home burglaries in the Riverbank area. The wheelchair and other recovered items were returned to the victim, police said.

Cole was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on a charge of receiving stolen property.
