Candidates have begun filing paperwork to run for the Nov. 3 General Municipal Election in both Oakdale and Riverbank.

In Oakdale, one candidate so far is seeking the mayor’s office and four candidates are entering the race for two City Council seats, according to the City Clerk’s candidate activity list.

As of the most recent update, incumbent Cherilyn Bairos had filed nomination papers for mayor in Oakdale and completed the required signature verification process.

Four individuals have pulled nomination papers for the two available City Council seats, including incumbent Kayleigh Gilbert, Mary Buchanan, Christopher Chavez and Benjamin Amaral. Gilbert is completing her first four-year term and is running for re-election. The other council post expiring in 2026 is the one being filled by Richard Murdoch, who was appointed to serve the remainder of the term for the seat vacated by Christopher Smith when he resigned from the council.

In Riverbank, there are two council seats on the ballot, those of District 1 and District 3. Incumbent Luis Uribe has already filed for re-election in District 1. Others that have pulled papers to run for the seat include Nai Nicholas Sosongkham, Daymond Mayfield, Sherry Fenn, George Serna and Jeanette Reyes.

John Pimentel is the appointed incumbent in District 3 but was not among those listed as having pulled papers to seek the position. Those that have picked up the papers are Carissa Commons, Alex Rodriguez and Sammi Martinez.

The nomination period for elections opened July 13 and is scheduled to close at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. If an incumbent does not file by the deadline, the nomination period will be extended through Aug. 12.

The offices – mayor and two councilmembers for Oakdale, two councilmembers for Riverbank – will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot, each serving four-year terms ending in December 2030.
