The exciting local event spot, the Breaking Point, hosted its first line dancing class the evening of Thursday, Sept. 1, where the class participants got to learn up to five different dances, and had the freedom to let loose and kick up their cowboy boots for a couple hours.
The Breaking Point is in what is commonly called the ‘Cost Less shopping center’ along North Yosemite Avenue, and is owned by J.R. and Gina McCarty, who decided that Oakdale needed a place where people from the city and surrounding areas could go line dancing and have a good time.
“We were thinking about what people wanted to do, and we thought being in the Cowboy Capital of the World there should be line dancing in Oakdale,” Gina explained.
The first class had a great turnout of about 50 people of all ages and dancing experience.
After seeing everyone enjoying the night and hearing that many wanted to come back, they both decided to offer it as a weekly event and host the line dancing class every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Some attending the first class stayed over an hour after still showing off their moves they learned from the night.
The class is led by dance instructor Emily Cassi who has been dancing for six years and teaching for four.
“I have some friends who teach line dancing and I spent so much time with them, I fell in love with line dancing,” Cassi explained. “As I got better at line dancing I began to teach, I just want to see as many people line dancing as possible.”
Cassi will be the regular instructor every Thursday and explained how each week the classes will slightly increase in difficulty.
Each class costs $10 and that includes the lesson and a free drink of your choice. All ages and experience are welcome.
In each class she takes the time to not only teach the steps but also teach the vocabulary that comes with line dancing to help each student with their progression for each class.
“The Breaking Point is a family friendly entertainment center for all ages, it’s a place where anyone can come and enjoy themselves,” J.R. stated.
The business is currently open Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., but sometimes staying open as late as 11 p.m. on the weekends.
