An Oakdale man, who got out of his vehicle after it had broken down alongside Crows Landing Road, was struck by another vehicle and died from the injuries he sustained, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The deceased motorist was identified as Anthony Lucero, 26, of Oakdale.

The collision happened at 5:47 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4 on Crows Landing Road, between Turlock and Patterson.

Lucero was driving a Dodge Ram southbound when it became disabled, according to the CHP.

Lucero got out of the vehicle and was crossing the road when he was struck by a minivan traveling southbound. He was taken by ambulance to Emanuel Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the minivan, a 35-year-old Modesto man, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was not suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

A toxicology report is pending for Lucero, according to the CHP.

Another man in the Dodge Ram was still in the vehicle at the time of the collision and was not injured.
