The owners of the Oakdale Bicycle Shop may have changed, but the main featured item is still bicycles. Dave Enz took over the shop on Oct. 1 and has plans to do some renovations. Ed Battisfore is the store manager and Andre Hummer is the head mechanic. Enz commented that all three of them have worked together for many years. The Oakdale Bicycle Shop is at 445 E. F St., Oakdale, and the hours of operation are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Sundays.

Enz is a lifelong cyclist and rides various types of bikes. He is one of the directors of Stanislaus County Bike Club and assistant director of the Triumph Cycling Team. The Triumph Cycling Team works with cancer survivors to improve riding skills and stay active. Enz is working on being a league certified instructor (LCI) by the League of American Cyclists. With the LCI certification, he would be able to teach the rules of the road to all levels of cyclists.

The new owner of the shop expressed how welcoming Oakdale has been to his crew and how much he really loves this city.

“We are having a good ol’ time here. This job is a passion, not a job,” stated Enz.

The Oakdale Bicycle Shop is not only going to have renovations but the inventory is going to change as well.

“The previous owners ran the store as more of a store of cruisers and comfort bikes,” stated Enz.

And while he is still going to have cruisers and comfort bikes in his store, he will also fill the store with higher-end bikes, road bikes, triathlon bikes, mountain bikes, cyclocross, bmx and hand cruisers.

They also do full service repairs on all bikes. Hummer, the head bike mechanic, has been equipped with all the high tech bike tools necessary to repair any bike.

They plan to stock a full line of cycling gear, from apparel, shoes, helmets to supplements. They are installing a new dressing room so customers can try on the specialized clothing. They will have food items as well for endurance riders. They will stock high tech tires and accessories.

Enz has high hopes for his new reign as Oakdale Bicycle Shop’s new owner. He is trying to organize a ‘century ride’ in Oakdale, which is a 100-mile ride that has several hills to climb. The new team will also have organized rides where people meet at the bike shop and then they venture off on their journey. The destinations and distances of the organized rides vary and participation is free.

Coming up on the schedule, there will be a professional Liv/giant Brand female bike team visiting the Oakdale Bicycle Shop to take a group ride from the shop to Knights Ferry. The group ride is free and they will be meeting at the Oakdale Bicycle Shop at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2.
