Track, Field Mustangs Run Away With MJC Invitational

On Saturday, March 30 Oakdale High School was well represented at the 2019 Modesto Junior College (MJC) Invitational. At the end of the event, it was both Mustang track and field teams earning first place. The Mustang boys took first with a total of 141 points and the girls took first with a total of 140.5.

In boys action Zeke Saffar took first place in the 100 meters at 11.32. Taking second in the event was John Foreman at 11.47. Saffar also took first in the 200 meters at 23.58. Foreman placed fourth in the event at 24.01. Saffar placed second in the long jump as he leaped 19-10.00. In the 400 meters, senior Cameron Burke took first with a personal record of 50.76. Brandon Martinez finished fifth overall in the 3200 meters with a time of 11:46.27. Senior A.J. Martinez placed first in the 110 meter hurdles at 16.45. Martinez also took first in the 300 meter hurdles event at 41.49. Right behind him was Cameron Burke at 41.52. Martinez, Burke, Saffar and Foreman took first place in the 4x100 relay at 44.18.

Ben Chappell placed second in the shot put with a throw of 42-02.00. Brandon Jeffrey placed third at 41-03.00. Chappell earned a first place finish in the discus with a personal record at 144-07. Grayson Paulus took first in the pole vault as he cleared 13 feet. Justin Carlos placed second at 12-06.00. Paulus placed fourth in the long jump at 19-05.00. Leo Ayala placed fourth overall in the triple jump at 39-03.00.

For the ladies, Carley Maaske placed third in the 100 meters at 13.00. Paris Thompson placed fourth in the 400 meters at 1:04.43. Freshman Haleigh Humble earned a first place finish in the 800 meters at 2:24.59. Kayden Legan finished in fifth place at 2:28.74. Legan placed first in the 1600 meters at 5:14.46 with Humble just steps behind to finish second at 5:14.91. Legan’s big day continued with a first place finish in the 3200 meters at 11:39.76. She finished that race nearly 90 seconds ahead of the second place runner. Kendra Branch placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles at 18.03. Branch also placed second in the 300 meter hurdles at 51.84. Alyssa Stott placed third in the event at 52.52. In the 4x100 relay Mia Goodreau, Makenzie Thompson, Paris Thompson and Maaske placed third at 53.03. In the 4x400 event, Humble, Norman, Legan and Paris Thompson took first place at 4:23.60.

Emma Harper took first place in both the shot put and discus. She threw for a personal record in the shot put at 38-03.00 and tossed a 123-11 in discus. Angelica Lowry took second in shot put at 37-02.00 and Valerie Osborne placed fourth at 33-09.00. Osborne placed third in the discus at 115-06 and Elizabeth Rushing placed fourth in discus at 106-03.

In high jump Tatyn Silva placed fourth at 4-08.00. Jaden Chau placed third in pole vault clearing 7-06.00. Maaske took fifth in the long jump at 15-06.00 and fifth in the triple jump at 32-08.50.
