Tournament, Non-League Play Featured For Hoops Squads

Oakdale’s varsity basketball boys built up a first half lead but were overwhelmed by the host Golden Valley squad in the third and fourth quarters on Dec. 14.

In the road game, it was a 51-38 loss for the varsity Mustangs, though they had a 27-19 lead at the break. Oakdale outscored Golden Valley 13-9 in the first quarter, 14-10 in the second. But the home team made adjustments and came out fighting, pouring it on with a 17-4 run over the Mustangs in the third quarter, 15-7 in the fourth.

Jackson Holt had 11 points for Oakdale in the loss, Landon Nunes chipped in with 10.

The team was slated to host Riverbank in non-league action Tuesday, Dec. 21 after The Leader went to press. They are also getting ready to host their holiday tournament, Dec. 28 through 30, and will open up with a game against Johansen on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

 

JV, Frosh

A busy week for the junior varsity hoopsters saw them defeat Golden Valley by a 48-36 final on Dec. 14. They moved on for games against Gregori – winning 44-43 on Dec. 17; defeating Golden Valley again in tourney play, 61-35 on Dec. 18; and falling to Turlock 50-43 on Dec. 20.

The freshmen were defeated by Golden Valley on Dec. 14 by a 49-27 final.

 

Girls Soccer

On the pitch, the varsity soccer girls bounced back from a 2-0 loss at Kimball on Dec. 14 to pummel Weston Ranch by a 9-0 verdict on Thursday, Dec. 16. Oakdale scored five goals in the first half and added four more in the second half on the way to the win, improving to 2-2 in Valley Oak League play on the young season.
