Tennis Team Plays In Pair Of Scrimmages

Getting out on the court, members of the Oakdale High School girls tennis team saw action in two scrimmages against non-conference opponents. On Tuesday, Aug. 21 the girls traveled to Pacheco and on Thursday, Aug. 23 the girls hosted Turlock.

The team has three decorated seniors on it as Lijian Bacud, McKenzie Brown and Shannen Yang all enter their final seasons. Yang has played all four years and Bacud and Brown have each played three. All three players are singles players.

Experience continues to grow in the program. The Lady Mustangs have a trio of juniors with experience as Tayla Barry, Kendra Branch and Jessica Garcia are returning to the team. Barry has played three years and both Branch and Garcia are entering their second. Branch also competes in cross country during the fall.

In doubles, Oakdale has a group of girls who play with high energy and enthusiasm. Paige Morgan, Savannah Gustafson, Jessica Jericoff, Katelyn Signorelli, Tanna Borba and Alyssa Jingco are all returning to the program from last season. Newcomers to the team are Nicole Brunker, Morgan Gravatt and Haley Gregory.

Oakdale opened up Valley Oak League play on Tuesday, Aug. 28 on the road against East Union. The match was held following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale will host Kimball on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. and follow up with another home set against Sierra on Thursday, Sept. 6.
