girls soccer

Due to field conditions, a scheduled Monday, Jan. 6 girls soccer road trip to Sierra High School was rescheduled for Friday evening, Jan. 10. The extra days of practice did not pay off for Oakdale as the varsity girls were shut out by Sierra 2-0. The host Lady Timberwolves (13-1-0, 3-0-0) scored a goal in each half. Oakdale (3-4-2, 0-3-0) had Victoria Rojas in at goalkeeper and she recorded six saves.

“She played great,” said Oakdale head coach Grace Fernandes about her goalkeeper following the road loss.

On the season Oakdale has scored 13 goals and has given up 13 goals.

The girls came into the week riding a four game losing streak but hope to correct it, looking for a win as they play a trio of games. Monday, Jan. 13 the girls hosted winless Weston Ranch (0-9-2, 0-3-0) following The Leader’s press time. On Wednesday, Jan. 15 Oakdale travels to Tracy to take on Kimball (8-6-1, 2-1-1). Friday night their busy week concludes at Central Catholic (3-4-2, 1-3-0) in Modesto. Oakdale will play four straight road games and return home on Jan. 27 to take on Sierra. All varsity games are scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

The girls junior varsity team also traveled to Manteca on Friday afternoon to take on Sierra and came away with a 5-1 loss. Oakdale scored the first goal of the game on a Mikayla Notaro penalty kick. That was their only goal of the game, however, and the host team put in five unanswered tallies the rest of the way.

The JV girls were to host Weston Ranch on Jan. 13, then will be on the road for games at Kimball and Central Catholic on Wednesday and Friday. All junior varsity games are scheduled for 4 p.m.
