Season Two Teams See Plenty Of Competition

As we approach the halfway mark of season two; here is a glance at how several Oakdale High School teams fared this past week. As a reminder, not all sports are keeping official stats, as there are no playoffs; no postseason.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

The girls tennis team has improved to 6-0 on the year after knocking off Escalon 4-3. Doubles players Stephanie DeCavit and Emma Love helped lead the Mustangs to victory with their thrilling third set tie-breaker 10-8 win. Coach Grant Miller calls this team “a special group of ladies. The vibe on this team is extraordinary.” Oakdale’s next match is scheduled for Thursday, May 6 when they travel to Manteca to face Sierra.

 

WATER POLO

In the pool, Oakdale took on Sierra on Friday afternoon for both boys and girls water polo. The boys were victorious 20-7 and the girls were 23-5 victors over the Timberwolves. Both boys and girls teams drew a bye this week so they return to action on Friday, May 14 at Ripon.

 

BOYS GOLF

For the golf boys, it was a pair of road wins. They defeated Kimball at Tracy Golf and Country Club 218-248. On Wednesday afternoon the boys defeated Central Catholic at Ceres River Oaks 178-224. With just two matches remaining on the schedule, Oakdale travels to Manteca on Wednesday, May 5 to play East Union. The season finale is scheduled for May 12 at Ripon Christian.

 

VOLLEYBALL

The volleyball girls took the home court on Wednesday evening as they fell to Central Catholic 18-25, 13-25, 19-25. They took on Kimball Monday, May 3 following The Leader press time. Oakdale was scheduled to travel to Manteca to face East Union on May 4.

 

SOCCER

The Lady Mustangs went 0-1-1 in soccer action this past week. On April 26 the girls drew a 2-2 tie on the road at Ripon. On April 28 the girls fell to Central Catholic in Modesto 4-3. All three goals were scored by Kyndra Obermeyer. This week the girls played host to Weston Ranch on Monday, May 3 following The Leader press time. Wednesday, May 5 the girls are away at Escalon with a 3:30 p.m. start time.

The Mustangs boys soccer team defeated Central Catholic 5-0. Kaleb McDonald had three goals for Oakdale. Jay Hummer and Jose Blanco each had a goal. Nicolas Cazares, Kevin Camelin, Juan Martinez and Miguel Lopez each had an assist. Riley Blount had four saves in goal. Oakdale lost to Weston Ranch 4-3 on Thursday evening. Caden Frazee had a pair of goals while McDonald had a goal and two assists. Edgar Gonzalez had an assist. Blount had seven saves in the contest. Oakdale traveled to Escalon on Tuesday, May 4 following The Leader press time. The team does not take the field again until Tuesday, May 11 at East Union.
