Wrapping up the Valley Oak League campaign, the varsity water polo girls and boys each took a win over Patterson as they observed Senior Night earlier this month.
Recognition was also provided for the two senior girls, Avery Bunney and Hannah Markovick, and the six senior boys, Cash Bairos, Lucas Frietas, Baron Haidlen, Zachary Hinckley, Caleb Kirschner and Carlos Ramirez, on the Mustang teams.
Also, the varsity girls recently took part in the Western States Tournament and placed first overall in the Bronze bracket of the competition.
“We just had the VOL championship tournament this past Friday at Modesto Junior College,” head coach Jared Kahler said of the most recent water polo action on Oct. 24. “Both our boys and girls finished in second place (at the tourney) taking second place in our league.”
The varsity girls defeated Sonora but then lost to Sierra to finish second overall while the boys beat Sonora but then lost to Ripon to finish in second place.
Both varsity squads will continue practicing, though, as they gear up for the postseason run.
“We will be going to playoffs,” Kahler said. “The girls first game will be November 4; boys first playoff game will be November 5.”
