Coming off their Section title win on Feb. 1, members of the Oakdale High School wrestling team traveled to Stockton this past weekend. Oakdale competed in the Valley Oak League Championships at Weston Ranch High School on Saturday, Feb. 8 and 14 Mustang grapplers punched their ticket to the Sac-Joaquin Section Divisionals. Michael Torres (106), Brayden Abell (115), Jonathan Hernandez (122), Clayton Bashor (126), Spencer Von Savoye (134), Seth Borba (162), Ceasar Garza (154), Brock Osmundson (168) and Garrison Gerber (184) were all named Valley Oak League champions. Payne Perkins (154), Jordan Van Rys (174), Jordan Garcia (184) and Ben Molina (197) all placed second. Geno Sarale (heavyweight) placed third.

“Another solid team effort, this group seems to be peaking at the right time and ready to make a run into the postseason,” said head coach Steve Strange. “They have high expectations individually, and have big team goals as well. Should be an exciting finish.”

The Mustangs dominated the tournament and hope to keep their momentum rolling. The wrestling postseason continues this week and later this month for the ultimate tournament: CIF State Championship in Bakersfield scheduled for Feb. 27 and 28.

Oakdale will be hosting the 2020 Sac-Joaquin Section Divisionals this Friday and Saturday with wrestling action scheduled for 11 a.m. both days.
