After having some time off during the long holiday break from school, a handful of Oakdale High School teams are back in action.
The varsity basketball boys traveled to Patterson to begin Valley Oak League play on Monday, Jan. 5 and found themselves on the wrong end of the 57-51 final.
Patterson ran out to a 15-5 lead in the first quarter, but the Mustangs returned the favor and went on a 16-6 run in the second, with the teams knotted at 21-21 at the half.
However, the host Tigers were a few points better in the second half and took the contest by the six-point edge.
It was only Oakdale’s second loss of the season, they are now 15-2 overall and are 0-1 in VOL, with a game hosting Central Catholic scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 7.
The Mustangs are coming off a championship run in their Oakdale Rotary Classic Holiday Tournament and look to get back on the winning track hosting the Raiders.
They will then go to Manteca on Friday, Jan. 9.
The JV boys, meanwhile, who also were champions of the Rotary tourney, improved to 1-0 in league and 14-2 overall as they defeated Patterson in the Jan. 5 game by a 75-35 final.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Closing out the calendar year, the varsity girls lost a non-league game at Livingston on Dec. 30, falling 43-35. They kept it fairly close throughout, trailing 25-16 at the half, but couldn’t quite get enough shots through the hoop to catch the host Lady Wolves.
The girls are scheduled to begin league play this week.
