It has been two decades, 20 years since the Oakdale High School boys basketball team played in the postseason. This week the long drought came to an end. The Mustangs made the playoffs … in the form of having the opportunity to ‘play in’ to the Division III bracket.

On Tuesday evening, Feb. 18, the Mustangs, the No. 16 seed in the 2025 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section DIII, will host the No. 17 seed Los Banos for the right to move on to the playoffs that begin Wednesday, Feb. 19.

“It’s been 20 years since the boys basketball team made the playoffs, and this is a hard-working group of guys that love to play, and can be really fun to watch,” said Mustangs head coach Jeremy Fields. “So it’s an exciting time for the Oakdale basketball program. We definitely plan to keep building the program in a positive way.”

A Tuesday night play-in win against Los Banos would give Oakdale the chance to travel to take on top seeded Christian Brothers on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. Others in the tournament are Fairfield, Lincoln, Central Catholic, River Valley, Twelve Bridges, East Union, Roseville, Foothill, Burbank, Nevada Union, Beyer, El Capitan, Placer and Oakmont.
