Mustang Track Team Runs Past Lancers

In all phases of the meet, the Mustangs proved to be faster, stronger and more agile than the visiting Lancers. On Thursday, April 4 Oakdale hosted East Union in a track and field meet. All four levels favored the Mustangs as victories by the varsity boys, varsity girls, junior varsity boys and junior varsity girls teams set the tone for the evening.

Powered by the voice of Oakdale High School sports, Pete Simoncini, the Valley Oak League meet was hosted under sunny skies inside The Corral.

For the varsity boys team it was a 100-30 win. A.J. Martinez took first place in the 110 meter hurdles, 3200 meter race and was in both the 4x100 and 4x400 first place teams. In the 4x100 he teamed with John Foreman, Cameron Burke and Leo Ayala. In the 4x400 Martinez, Foreman, Burke and Blake Eskew placed first. Burke placed first in the 300 meter hurdles and took first place honors in the 400 meter race. Foreman placed first in both the 100 and 200 meter races. Ayala placed first in the long jump. Dustin Chavez earned first place finishes in both the 800 and 1600 meter races. Jaiden Williams placed first in both the high jump and the triple jump events. Ben Chappell took first in both discus and shot put. In pole vault Grayson Paulus placed first.

For the varsity girls, the trio of Haleigh Humble, Kayden Legan and Hannah Beth Norman took first in numerous events. Humble and Legan tied for first in the 1600. Humble, Legan and Norman tied for first in the 800 and 3200 meter races. Emma Harper placed first in the discus and Angelica Lowry placed first in shot put. Jaden Chau placed first in pole vault. The girls edged the Lancers 78-51.

Junior varsity boys took an 84-52 victory. Zeke Saffar placed first in the 100 and 200 meter races. Saffar also helped the 4x400 meter relay team take first place honors as well. He partnered with Jake Kettering, Caleb McDonald and Dion Suarez in the relay event. Kettering, Suarez and McDonald teamed with Kevin Camelin in the 4x100 meter race and took first place honors. Camelin placed first in the long jump. Omar Baez placed first in both discus and shot put. Jackson Holt placed first in high jump and Jude Krick placed first in the pole vault.

The junior varsity girls came away with a dominant 106-21 victory. Sierra Hartwig placed first in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Makenzie Thompson had a big evening as she placed first in the 200 meter race, and was a part of the first place 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Along with Afton Daley, Julianna Forkner and Madison Jones the 4x100 team earned top honors. She also teamed with Daley, Forkner and Mia Goodreau for a first place finish in the 4x400 relay. Madison Jones took first in the triple jump and long jump. Janessa Tolbert placed first in both discus and shot put. Nichole Carter placed first in the 1600 meter race. Lauren Schickert placed first in the 400 meter race. Bailey Housley placed first in the high jump event.

Oakdale will host both Manteca and Weston Ranch on Thursday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m.
