Mustang Tennis Boys Split League Matches On Court

The Oakdale High School boys tennis team played a pair of Valley Oak League matches this past week. The team defeated East Union on the road but fell to visiting Central Catholic.

On Monday, March 18 the boys traveled to Manteca to take on East Union. This contest was originally scheduled for March 5, which was going to be the regular season opener but was rescheduled due to rain. Oakdale had a successful road trip as they defeated the Lancers 8-1. In the win, five of the six singles earned wins. Liam Peters, Frankie Dutra, Caleb Poling, Jimmy Homer and Shivam Mistry all were victorious. Peters defeated Matt Trinidad 6-3, 6-1. Dutra took care of Steven Chang in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. Poling defeated Kelton DeSouza in a three set battle 7-6, (7-3), 6-4. Freshman Homer remains unbeaten on the season as he blanked Dustin Ngo 6-0, 6-0. Mistry battled Ngo’s brother Daniel to a three set contest victory. Mistry won the dramatic set 6-3, 2-6, and 6-1. Dropping in three sets was Oakdale’s Zach Nielson 7-6, (8-6), 6-2 to Tarunjit Sigh.

The Mustang doubles continued to put wins on the books as all three teams took their matches. Chris Frye and Max Moore won 6-1, 6-0 over the team of Isaac Diaz and Harmeet Sandhu. Gil Alburo and Aiden Rodrigues also won with a score of 6-1, 6-0 over Matt Mendoza and Aaron Mosley. Hayden Hill and Jackson Healy defeated Japreet Sigh and Pedro Orozco 6-0, 6-1.

On Tuesday, March 19 the boys hosted Central Catholic and lost 7-2 to the Raiders. Earning wins were Homer 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Robert Wagner. Also earning a win in singles play was Nielson over Ryan Wagner 6-2, 6-0.

Tuesday, March 26 the boys traveled to Stockton to take on Weston Ranch following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale returns to the court on Thursday, March 28 when they travel to Tracy to take on Kimball. This contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Oakdale returns home on Tuesday, April 2 when they host East Union to start play in the second half of the season.
