Mustang Tennis Boys Craft Three Wins

A busy yet successful week for the Oakdale High School boys tennis team. Three road matches proved to be no problem for the Mustangs as they defeated East Union, Central Catholic and Sierra this past week.

On Monday, April 8 the boys defeated East Union 7-2. In the win five of the six singles were victorious. Liam Peters won his set 6-3, 6-2. Frankie Dutra earned a 6-1, 6-3 win. Jimmy Homer won 6-3, 6-4. Zach Nielson battled to a 6-4, 6-2 win. Caleb Poling won his match 6-0, 6-0. Two of the three doubles teams also earned wins.

Tuesday, April 9 the boys upset first place Central Catholic, in what head coach Grant Miller called “The biggest win in at least a decade.” Oakdale knocked off the Raiders 6-3. Peters, Poling, Mark Chavez and Nielson were all winners in the road win. In doubles action Shivam Mistry and Leo Diaz won 7-5, 5-7, 14-12 in a marathon battle over Peter Fogarty and Jack Rice. Max Moore and Chris Frye defeated Adrian Cuevas and Christian Enevodlser 6-0, 6-3.

Wrapping up the week was a road win over Sierra, 5-4. In singles Chavez and Nielson were the lone victors in the contest. Helping propel the team to victory were the doubles teams as all three earned victories. Mistry and Diaz won 6-3, 6-3. Moore and Frye won 6-1, 6-3 and Haiden Hill and Aiden Rodriguez won 6-3, 6-1.

Following the big week Oakdale punched its ticket for the postseason. The Mustangs hosted Manteca on Tuesday, April 16 following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale will host Weston Ranch on Thursday, April 18 in the season finale, scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
