Students may have started their winter break for the holidays but several Oakdale High School teams are continuing to face off with opponents.
Here is a wrap of the recent contests for the OHS soccer and basketball programs.
GIRLS SOCCER
A busy week for the varsity soccer girls started off on an uplifting note, as they edged Sierra to open up Valley Oak League play on Dec. 17, winning 3-2. Kaia Cox, Dakota Burford and Layla Garcia-Gonzalez each scored in the contest and Skyler Burford added an assist.
They went on to play in a trio of contests Dec. 19 and 20, first defeating West by a lopsided 7-0 final. Layla Garcia-Gonzalez scored three goals in the win and Dakota Burford chipped in with two. They took a 4-1 loss to Redwood on Dec. 20 but came back to win their Dec. 20 contest against Cosumnes Oaks, 4-0. Leila Muller, Sienna Alley, Dakota Burford and Layla Garcia-Gonzalez scored the goals.
The girls improved to 7-1-2 overall following their recent contests.
BOYS SOCCER
The Mustang varsity boys opened up their league action on Dec. 16 with a 3-0 win over Manteca. Giovanny Villalobos had two goals and Evan Perez scored one, with assists from Aiden Ramirez, Liam Miller and Perez.
They hosted undefeated Summerville on Dec. 18 and lost that contest by a close 1-0 decision.
The boys are scheduled to host Sierra on Jan. 6.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Four games for the varsity Lady Mustang hoopsters saw them earn a split. They won 45-22 over Buhach Colony on the road Dec. 16 and also got a victory on Dec 18 against Golden Valley. Their two losses were to Calaveras, 64-40, on Dec. 19 and then they battled to a 39-31 loss at Turlock on Dec. 22.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Oakdale’s varsity basketball boys continue to put impressive wins on the books, rolling to a trio of three straight victories in recent action.
They were 77-65 winners against McNair on Dec. 18, paced by the 28-point night from Bryce Busam. Niki Jones added 16 to the team total.
Against Chavez on Dec. 19, the boys put a 59-47 decision in the win column with 16 points from Busam and 12 from Gavin Wyatt.
Four players hit double figures on Saturday, Dec. 20 as the Mustangs captured the championship of the Chavez Tournament, defeating Golden Valley by a 73-66 final. Busam was high scorer with 20 points; Jones had 16, Wyatt chipped in with 12 and Griffin Galuppi had 10 points on the night.
