Mustang Baseball Team Continues Winning Ways

Oakdale High School baseball is making the most of this season. The team has now won six consecutive games, with the latest being over Kimball. The Mustangs traveled to Tracy on Tuesday, May 11 to face Kimball and walked off the field 6-0 victors. Dom Antinetti had two hits and three runs batted in for Oakdale. Landon Nunes had a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Preston Vierra also had a multi-hit game and drove in a run. Noah Chelberg pitched a complete game no hitter, gave up a pair of walks and struck out 13.

Thursday afternoon the team hosted Kimball to complete the series. Kimball leaped out to a six-run first inning but the Mustangs cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first as they countered with three runs. The Mustangs went on to score six more unanswered runs between the second and third innings to help put away the Jaguars. Antinetti’s big week continued when the senior went 2-for-2 and brought in four runs. Oakdale had a total of six hits on the day. John Wylie pitched six innings for Oakdale giving up eight hits, and seven runs, five of them earned. Andrew Sapwell entered the game and pitched a scoreless inning giving up just one hit while striking out two.

The Mustangs turn their attention to Manteca this week. Tuesday, May 18 the team hosted Manteca for Senior Day 2021. The event took place following The Leader press time. Oakdale travels to Manteca to complete the series Thursday, May 20 at 4 p.m. The Mustangs close out their season with a series against Central Catholic next week. Game one of that series is scheduled for Monday, May 24 in Modesto and the season finale is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26 at home with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
