Mustang Athletes Gearing Up For Fall Sports Season

With the start of the 2023-2024 school year, the fall season is also underway for the Oakdale High School sports teams. The Mustang program has a half dozen sports on the slate for the fall semester. Football, girls volleyball, girls tennis, girls golf, water polo and cross country will all be making their return.

 

FOOTBALL – The Mustangs will host a scrimmage this Friday night, Aug. 11 against Tracy with junior varsity scheduled at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.

Sonora comes to town on Friday, Aug. 18. The Mustangs head to the coast on Friday, Aug. 25 to take on Aptos. Valley Oak League play begins on Friday, Sept. 29 at Sierra. Homecoming 2023 is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 against East Union.

 

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL – A packed schedule for the team begins with a Saturday, Aug. 12 scrimmage at Escalon, followed by the girls hosting a scrimmage with Waterford on Wednesday, Aug. 16 with games at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Then they host El Capitan on Friday, Aug. 18 with game times of 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The Foundation Game (varsity only) is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21 at home against Turlock. Valley Oak League play opens on Thursday, Sept. 14 at Sierra. Thursday, Sept. 21 is the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer Night when the teams welcome in East Union. Pink Out night is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 3 against Sierra and Senior Night 2023 is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10 against Kimball.

 

GIRLS TENNIS – Coach Grant Miller and the team open their schedule with a pair of away non-conference opponents. They play Monday, Aug. 21 at Johansen and 10 days later they take on Merced. Valley Oak League action begins on Tuesday, Sept. 12 when they host East Union at 3:30 p.m. Oakdale will be the site for the Valley Oak League Singles and Doubles championship this season. Singles is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 24 and doubles will compete on Thursday, Oct. 26.

 

GIRLS GOLF – Teeing off this year on the road, the girls will play in the Yellowjacket Invite in Turlock on Monday, Aug. 21. The Mustangs open Valley Oak League play on Tuesday, Sept. 5 against Manteca. The home match will take place at Oakdale Golf and Country Club at 3:15 p.m. Jeremy Fields and Lee McGhee are the coaching staff.

 

WATER POLO – Boys and girls water polo squads look to make a splash in the Valley Oak League and beyond this season. A few scrimmages get the teams rolling, against Johansen on the road Saturday, Sept. 2. Tuesday, Sept. 5 Oakdale welcomes Pitman to town beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The varsity boys team is coached by Savannah Martin and the varsity girls team will be coached by Tyler Bolton. Freshmen and sophomore teams will be coached by Ron Thompson.

 

CROSS COUNTRY – Off and running with the Valley Oak League #1 at Mistlin Park in Ripon, the Mustangs will lace up for the race that will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m. The Valley Oak League Championship is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Eagal Lakes at 2 p.m. Oakdale will not host any meets this season. Boys head coach is Guy Fowler and the girls head coach is Vic Moreno.
