Competing in the United States Polo Association (USPA) Interscholastic Girls (seventh grade – 12th grade) division, Oakdale took third place overall at the Western Regional Tournament at Central Coast Polo Club in Los Osos, California. The team was in action Feb. 13 through 15 and played against Maui Makaha, Maui, Hawaii and Horse Park, Menlo Park, California. They placed third overall.
The Interscholastic program requires the players maintain a 2.0 GPA, just as in CIF regulations. The USPA Interscholastic Program’s mission statement requires the players to be responsible for grooming, tacking, and caring for the horses, in addition to appropriate sportsmanship and horsemanship. They are not allowed to have grooms.
Oakdale Polo Club operates on Lon-Dale Road under the guidance of Mike O’Ferrall. This year the team had one veteran player, Fiona McBride-Luman and for the rest of the players, this was their first year. The Oakdale Polo Club began its Interscholastic program in 2010 with the assistance of Shauna Rico and Mike O’Ferrall.
